I have found that the e3231 will reliably correctly switch and be detected by the OS as a network interface if the dongle is sitting on a usb 2.0 hub plugged into the computer, but it does not reliably work if plugged directly into the usb 3.0 ports of the computer. - #3You have my sympathy, I bought a Huawei E160G HSDPA USB Stick on Ebay last month which I couldn't get to work on any system ~ luckily the seller agreed to a refund.
So I would just ask for a refund. - #4Three's website is useless as some of the help pages provided are broken.
Was OK when I looked. Try these suggestions:
- make sure to log into your PC with an administrator account before inserting the dongle
- if that fails, also try turning off all anti virus programs and firewalls before inserting the dongle
- see if any extra USB drive shows up when the dongle is inserted (in Explorer, My Computer, etc). If so check whether you can see a program or script on it which you can double click to run. - #5This page on Three's website is broken.

Any lights on the dongle or is it dead? - #7

That page works ok for me and all the links within.
The dongle should install the drivers when you plug it in the first time. Try misar's advice. - #9I did all of misar's tips and still nothing shows.
- #10Have you got a different computer to try it on ?
Edit: have you tried a different USB slot on your computer ? - #11Have you got a different computer to try it on ?

No and used all four ports. - #12No and used all four ports.
I only asked as my wife got a Kindle for Christmas, I plugged into my ancient XP machine and though it was recognised as a drive it would not open. Tried it on a Win 7 machine and it opened fine .... I don't think it was to do with XP though.
Does it show as a drive under computer ?
I have a 2nd hand 3 Huawei dongle which I have never used but 3 seconds after plugging it in I get this and it is showing as a removable drive in 'my computer'. - #13

No and I only get that when I install my current older ZTE modem. - #14Then I don't know, it may be faulty. The only way to know for sure is to plug it into a different computer (friend) just to see do you get the set up page .... if you don't then it must be faulty.

I'm taking it back for a refund or another one to try. I didn't obviously activite the sim and used my old one to test it (got the blue 3G light) so hopefully might be entitled to one.
My old ZTE dongle which I've had problems with recently is now working properly after re-installing the software. - #16Autostart is turned off these days.
Go to 'My Computer' and there should be an extra drive showing.
You will find the software in that small capacity USB drive.
You should also find drivers at Three plus generic ones at Huawei - #17Autostart is turned off these days.

Im assuming the op has already done that. And im pretty sure there are no drivers for this as it is mean to be driverless (right?)
Only option as mentioned is to test on another pc.Or test a new dongle on current pc - #18Autostart is turned off these days.

There was no extra drive showing and Three's dongle drivers page doesn't have a link for software for this model. - #19I've been given a replacement dongle which works perfectly on this pc. There doesn't appear to be a dashboard though, so can't check speed or reception.

I use these all the time. When plugging into a usb slot, your computer goes through installing the drivers to access the dongle. You may only get two drivers installing the first time you plugin. If you restart you then get a list of 7 plus drivers being installed, this happens all the time. You have to plug in and unplug-replugin about three times.
